Older people benefit from strength training.

Strength training can give you benefits at any age. Some people think that there is a point where you are too old to get stronger. Well, this study proves that strength training may change the lives of elderly people.

Protas, EJ, and Tissier, S.
Strength and speed training for elders with mobility disability.
 J Aging Phys Act 17: 257 – 271, 2009.

They examine the effects of a 12-week functional program of strength training and gait speed training on walking speed, walking endurance and functional impairment. It included functional exercises like lunges (10-15 reps) and shorts bouts of fast walking (can you see high intensity here?).

The result was a significant improvement in the endurance and mobility of the subjects. This obviously translates into a better quality of life.

  1. Strength training can give you benefits at any age. Strength training is the use of resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles. There are many different methods of strength training, the most common being the use of gravity or elastic/hydraulic forces to oppose muscle contraction. Thanks a lot for sharing such an interesting post.

    1. Thank you for your comment. This should have been covered in the news. But it doesn't deal with medication.
Have you experimented it with patients?
