Do you agree with that statement? Up to a few months ago, I would have agreed. Burn as many calories during your workout and you will lose more fat. Well, this article says the opposite.
Impact of Exercise Intensity on Body Fatness and Skeletal Muscle Metabolism.
A. Tremblay, et al.
Metabolism, Vol 43, No 7 (July), 1994: pp 814-818
During the exercise sessions, the subjects that did high intensity intervals burn half the calories of the continuous group. They still manage to lose more fat.
From the discussion:
“…vigorous exercise may lead to better lipid utilization in the post exercise state and may thus contribute to a greater energy and lipid deficit.”
And the other thing I get from this article is the importance of the rest periods. So this is the way I’ll tweak my workout. Very high intensity for a short period of time, then rest. That way I’ll be able to repeat.
And I found another study that will shock you. I’ll tell you about it on Monday. If you are into endurance, you will see that you don’t need high volumes of training.
