The 3 lies of commercial gyms.

I know it sounds like I’m about to speak against my industry. We have been untrue for some time. It is time to come clean.
I’m not saying that gyms are useless. Or those gym owners deceive people. All I’m saying is that they have been supporting some misconceptions. Here they are in random order.

1. Weight machines are better and safer

We were not made to sit. So why do we put our members in seated position to exercise? And frankly, can you name a movement you do in everyday life where you are seated and work only your biceps? And I know some of you will say that the adductor machine is important for the inner thigh. Well, do a lunge and you’ll see your inner thigh is working.

2. Long and slow is better for fat loss.

This is based on exercise research from the 80s. At lower intensities, a higher percentage of your calories come fro fat. The problem is that you just don’t burn many.

3. You need equipment to get in shape.

Equipment can be very helpful. Essential? No. What are essential are motivation and a plan.
