Just cutting calories?

I saw an article in the Globe and Mail (http://tinyurl.com/7x59n8o) about diet and weight loss. And frankly, I was bothered by the advice that I found.

The author is reporting the findings of a study on weight loss. Over 6 months,  the participants loss 9 lbs of fat and 5 lbs of muscle. Well if you know how important muscle tissue is, this is a tragedy. To regain those 5 lbs would take a lot of work. And if you read this blog regularly, you know that being strong is the best way to stay young. Just read Resistance Training Reveres Aging.

The other point is that the source of your calories is not important. Just watch the total amount. Again, this blog reported that the source of your calories makes a difference (See Can you lose fat by eating just fat?). And you need to make sure that you eat enough to maintain your muscle tissue. For your proper caloric count see the Feb 3 post.

What are your thoughts?
