Do you wonder why you set fitness goals and never achieve them? Well you are not alone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. And it will not happen again if you use this approach.
You have to stop being interested in your goals and become committed to them. There is a big difference between the two. You may set your goal because you think it is the right thing to do. In that case you are interested. You would be happy if you get there. In that case you will do what is convenient. Not what is necessary.
“Insanity is repeating the same actions and expecting different results.”
–Albert Einstein
When you are committed, nothing will stop you. You will have a fire in your gut that drives you to success. That is the difference.
So, how do you make the switch? Keep reading and you will make the leap from interested to committed.
This is a 3-step strategy
1. What?
Set your goal. This is where you determine clearly what you want to achieve. Losing weight is not specific enough. You should know the size of clothes you want to wear or the number of inches you want on your waist. Get it?
2. Why?
This is the big motivator. Why is it so important that you achieve your goal? Spend time to find a valid answer. This will be your driving force.
3. How?
Determine the actions that you have to take and habits you need to change. If you thought you could just carry on with your old ways, read the Einstein quote again. If you want to lose weight, I bet you need to change your eating habits. Examples: I eat breakfast every morning; I bring my lunch and 2 snacks to work. And that means you need to shop for groceries. Makes sense?
All of this has to be in writing and in the present tense. Write is as if it was happening now. Don’t listen to the voice inside calling you a liar.
Example
Goal:
I wear a size 34 pants or I fit in my skinny jeans.
Motivation:
I have more energy to play with my kids.
Actions:
I eat breakfast every morning.
I never skip a meal.
I take time to chew my food.
I workout three times per week using a body-weight circuit program ;-)
